BARK IN THE PARK - MORE THAN JUST A RUN/WALK
Annual Animal Fundraiser Becomes More Family-Oriented
This year's BARK IN THE PARK will cater to both four-legged and two-legged family members.
Scheduled for September 20, 2008 at Seneca Park, the fourth annual fundraising event includes a 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk, dog-themed booths/contests/demonstrations, and many family-friendly events. Proceeds go to benefit The Animal Care Society - the city's only non-profit, no-kill shelter for dogs and cats, located at 12207 Westport Road.
Events for dogs and their families include the Canine Idol Talent Contest, a Halloween Canine Costume Contest (owners encouraged to dress-up, too!), agility demonstrations, and many other activities to be conducted during the day-long event which will begin at7AM and last until 3PM.
Register now the 5K Run and/or 1 Mile Walk. To pre-register and save $5 off the $25 registration fee, go to www.active.com. Day-of-event registration fee is $30. Registration for the 5K Run begins at 7:00AM the day of the event with the run starting at 8:00 AM. Registration for the 1Mile Walk begins at 10:00AM the day of the event with the walk starting at 10:30AM.
Does your pet have a "pawsitively" unique or entertaining talent? Then sign him or her up for Bark in the Park's Second Annual Canine Idol Contest. Try-outs will be held the day of the event from 11:30PM to 1:00PM. Finalists will compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. Or maybe you are more inclined to clad your pooch in his or her funniest, scariest, or most original Halloween costume. And don't be shy - join your pampered pooch in his or her costume finery! Winners will receive prizes from The Picture People photography studio. If your pooch is not into costumes, then encourage your clever canine to demonstrate his or her athletic dexterity in the Agility Demonstrations. Vendors on hand will include Pet CPR/First Aid Training, Frisbee demonstrations, K-9 Police Dog Unit demonstration, Obedience/Training classes, and Metro Animal Services' Mobile SPOT Unit. Veterinarians from Pewee Valley Veterinary Center will be microchipping for a fee of $30 from 10:00AM - 3:00PM.
But don't think all the fun will be just for your furry friends - for a minimal cost, children can get their faces painted, decorate doggy biscuits, choose a prize from the Duck Pond, or compete in our Kibble Throw.
Vendors will be on-site to provide visitors with pet-themed merchandise and information. Pizza slices, sweet treats, and beverages will also be sold to help you keep your energy level up. Doggie biscuits and other treats will also be available for purchase for your canine companion(s).
And as if all of the above wasn't enough, chances will be sold to win great prizes through ACS's Raffle. Names will be drawn all day. You can also bid on a number of great gifts that will be offered in our Silent Auction.
If you'd like to sponsor this event, make a monetary donation to help offset expenses, or if you'd like more information on this year's Bark in the Park, please contact Bunny Zeller at (502) 425-3972.
