His care at ACS

When Max, a well-mannered 5-yr old Miniature Pinscher was adopted in August, 2008, we thought he would have a long happy life as the beloved canine companion of the young couple who fell in love with him. So we were surprised when he was returned to ACS in Septemer, 2010 because “he was peeing all over the house”- a behavior the couple attributed to their new baby. It only took two days for the staff to suspect that Max’s excessive urination was a medical and not a behavioral issue. Bloodwork quickly confirmed that Max was diabetic and that his condition was so severe he would be insulin dependent the rest of his life. Max’s expenses totaled $1,000 before he was adopted by a wonderful couple with a soft spot for ‘special needs’ dogs.
